To test how good the toothbrush is, I got out my set of test teeth, and fitted them with spinach and beetroot debris. Cleaning using the standard clean programme, I found that the round Ultimate Clean brush head managed to make its way around the teeth easily. But once you’ve perfected everything, then what? Will you continue to use the app once you’ve achieved a nigh-on perfect brushing score every time? If you’re not bothered with the whole idea of apps and smart toothbrushes, then the iO Series 3 is amazing value and, arguably, the best brush in Oral-B’s whole range. It boasts the same magnetic drive technology as the other brushes in Oral-B’s flagship iO-Series range, but comes without the advanced sensors and Bluetooth connectivity to monitor your brushing and send the data to your smartphone. In practice, that means a quieter brush with a more comfortable vibration, and one that still leaves your incisors feeling polished and your molars super-clean, as well as doing a fantastic job of clearing plaque from between your teeth. Added value is always appreciated. Bit miffed however that Oral-B does not offer the iO9 in violet or the iO8 in pink. These things exist at price points that should include all of the colors Oral-B has being available for each of their models. She’d enjoy and love a violet iO8, but it’s the rose of the iO9 that will get a sparkle going in her eye.

My experience and my dentist said don’t be to tight with the toothpaste, put plenty (many don’t put enough). Additionally, the motor inside was totally redesigned to give it a quieter yet more effective complete clean of the teeth. If you know that you are going to take that time, then after using it for a few weeks you will begin to have a memory of where you need to go in your mouth and how long you need to stay there to make sure every surface of the tooth has been covered.Kids/Junior series: Variations of the Vitality, Pro and Smart Series brushes aimed at kids and teens. Often slightly smaller and featuring favourite characters or more colourful designs. This isn’t a major issue for the vast majority of users. I wouldn’t say it’s a reason to avoid it, particularly as the Series 9 has a magnetic fast charger capable of topping the battery up in just 3 hours. If you are a frequent traveler it is something to bear in mind. You now need an iO-specific head, of which there are 4 styles, when using the iO9. 4 different styles of brush heads are available and fit to the iO Series brush handles. The retail prices make Sonicare a clear favourite. When adjusted selling prices are used there is little to choose between them in price.

The iO9 and 10 can hold the handle and 1 brush head only. This is because you can charge the brush inside the case. There is no battery in the case to do this. Instead, you connect the supplied proprietary power adapter.

The cleaning action found on the Oral-B iO is more highly regarded clinically, both do a fantastic job. This toothbrush can be paired with the Oral-B app, which gives you a few extra features. First, you can use the app to change the colour of the LED ring, which is handy if you’ve got multiple people in the house with the same brush handle. You can also override the default two-minute timer, setting your own preferred brushing time. The iO’s are excellent, make no mistakes about it. The colour display is innovative and the fast charging is welcomed. I do like the fact it shows when you are using the correct amount of pressure too. You can change the cleaning mode on the iO5 before turning the brush on. You can’t do this on the iO4. Get a uniquely personalized clean with 7 Smart Brushing Modes including Daily Clean, Whiten, Gum Care, Sensitive, Super Sensitive, Intense, and Tongue Clean.
