About this deal

It’s very different from your standard London Dry Gin—made with juniper, citrus, and coriander, it’s less dry and boasts a subtle sweetness. An abundance of different roots added to the blend of botanical also makes it more earthy and round than your standard gin. The allspice brings an earthy and warming level of spice, with an elevated sweetness of liquorice and cassia across the palate. The pink peppercorns, already large on the aroma, really pop on the palate. The Ginasium says:“I first came across this Verdant Gin at a show in London where Andrew gave a talk that captured his enthusiasm… a mix of old tradition and innovation. It’s a dry gin reflecting its one-shot method, but the botanicals and distilling of the raw spirit have produced a juniper-forward silky smooth spirit with a lovely but curious immediate sweetness, which is followed by a peppery warmth and finish. The first thing that strikes a chord with me about Dog and Spoon Distillery is the charming humour and blunt honesty with which they introduce their brand.

Julian Vallis says:“I like Achroous because of it breaking the mould by being a ‘sessionable’ gin with an Old Tom character, despite it having no added sugar. The brand is named after George Chinnery, the English painter, who began his career in Dublin, before travelling to China. The bottle is inspired by these two parts of his career – Georgian Dublin and Imperial China. Photo Credit: The Wee Farm Distllery Featuring 13 botanicals that combine to provide a careful balance of citrus, thistles, heather, pink peppercorns and allspice, the gin aims to celebrate provenance of the Scottish landscape as well as being “the perfect gin to compliment a good Scotch steak”. On the tasting, and there’s an impressive amped up level of concentration from the original Drovers experience. The juniper grows in power, strutting with a confidence and resinous swagger, whilst the allspice and pink peppercorns flex their muscles. If you have yet to taste genever, it is unlike any other gin you've had. This style of gin is as if a soft Scotch whisky were married with gin, and Bols' malty feel is a perfect example. Based on Lucas Bols' original recipe from 1820, it has a wonderful balance of sweet malt and subdued juniper and citrus. It is triple distilled using equal parts malt wine and neutral grain spirits that are infused with natural flavors. Bakewell’s affection for Harris led him to found the Distillery, with the help of 17 private investors, to bolster the island’s economy. Not just from the distillery itself, but through tourism to the island.

Described as being juniper and citrus forward, it is (in print at least) a classic gin that has a character that is very much ‘right up my street’.

Today, drinkers can enjoy the diversity of gin.Unlike vodka, each bottle of gin is truly unique. The majority feature some degree of the pine flavor that comes from juniper, which is gin's signature ingredient, yet no two bottles have the same combination of botanicals. The juniper is beautifully balanced, and lingers purposefully behind those bold red fruits, with suggestions of a rich and warming sweet spice. It works brilliantly as a G&T, with a fresh raspberry garnish. The tonic pulls forward a little more sweetness, whilst maintaining the strong raspberry flavour, putting a delicate and floral touch on a classic. What defines a Scottish gin? Many believe a true Scottish gin needs to be distilled in the country, while The Gin Cooperative have been doing their bit to increase transparency about where a gin is made. The first of several navy strength gins on our list is a relative newcomer to the Scottish Gin scene. Launching in May 2020, Biggar Gin have built on their growing following with the playfully named Biggar Strength. Winner of a silver medal at the London Spirits Competition 2020, it uses the locally foraged hawthorn berry as a key botanical. As previously mentioned, I wouldn’t usually advise drinking liquids from unmarked bottles. But when the contents is this delicious I make an exception…
