The band’s second album Searching for the Young Soul Rebels contained the #1 UK hit, “Geno”. The album received lots of acclaim in England. The West Stand is for hardcore rugby fans, filling game scores in newspapers and actually watching the rugby. On or off the pitch, this global tournament boasts global names. The simple, yet effective costume has been done to death at this point, involving nothing more than a regular shirt, a “Hello My Name Is Eileen” name tag and some sort of cum-looking substance, likely glue.

The costume idea has been floating around for a few Halloweens now, but the resurgence in appreciation for the double platinum song in recent months has made it a popular costume choice this year.

Helped along by Rowland’s new band uniform – they dressed like a vagabond troupe, dirtied dungarees and all – “Come On Eileen” became an enormous hit, justifying the singer’s faith in the song. It was the biggest-selling single of 1982 in the UK, hit No. 1 in the US and Top 10s worldwide. As Rowland later told M: “Not bad for a song that nearly split up the band, sent me to the verge of mania, and then almost wasn’t released. I always knew it was a good one!” The East Stand, especially right at the top, is ideal for some semblance of peace and quiet – especially popular on Sunday mornings if you’re nursing a heavy head.
